Indwelling urinary catheter in males

Catheter inserted into penis, through urethra and into bladder and held in place with inflated balloon, showing urine draining into collection bag strapped to leg.

An indwelling urinary catheter is a small, flexible tube that can be inserted through the urethra and into the bladder. The catheter allows urine to drain into a collection bag.

An indwelling catheter is one that stays in place for a longer period of time. When the catheter is inserted into the bladder, a small balloon is inflated to keep it in place. The balloon is deflated before the catheter is removed.
