EMS Program
“Working together to bring emergency care to palliative and end of life patients.”

EMS Logo Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and community clinicians are bringing care to people who receive palliative and end of life care in their homes. We're working together to help people stay in the community if that's what they choose. The provincial EMS Palliative and End of Life Care Assess, Treat, and Refer (ATR) program allows EMS to give emergency care at home. They work with the person and their family, their clinician, and an on-call doctor.

This program allows community clinicians and EMS to manage palliative and end of life emergencies in people's homes when possible. Supporting people who wish to be at home will help keep them out of emergency departments and create better experiences for patients and families.

This is one of many new programs under the Palliative and End of Life Care Alberta Provincial Framework.
