After Your Stillbirth

What is Stillbirth?

When you have been pregnant for 20 weeks or longer and your baby dies before or during birth, it is called a stillbirth. About 1 in 200 pregnancies ends in a stillbirth. In about 1 in four (25%) of all stillbirths, the cause is not known.

The reaction of parents to a stillbirth may be to blame themselves but a stillbirth is no one’s fault. Parents may want to know what factors increase risk of stillbirth; but usually no specific factor can be determined to be the cause.

If you are interested in finding out more about the risks, have a conversation with your healthcare provider.
