Pronunciation: MIN-er-al oyl/dye-METH-i-kone

Important: How To Use This Information

This is a summary and does NOT have all possible information about this product. This information does not assure that this product is safe, effective, or appropriate for you. This information is not individual medical advice and does not substitute for the advice of your health care professional. Always ask your health care professional for complete information about this product and your specific health needs.

Uses

This product contains 2 ingredients: mineral oil and dimethicone. It is used to treat head lice, tiny insects that infest and irritate your scalp. Head lice lay small white eggs (nits) at the roots of hair close to the scalp, especially on the hairline at the back of the neck and behind the ears. Mineral oil and dimethicone work by stopping the lice and their eggs from getting air, killing them by suffocation.

How To Use

Read and follow all directions on the product package before using this medication. If you have any questions, consult your pharmacist.

People who are in close contact with the infected person, such as members of the same household, should also be checked for lice and nits. Use a comb to help look for head lice or nits. Treat everyone infected with lice on the same day to prevent getting lice again. A regular comb can be used before treatment to remove any tangles. Clean the comb thoroughly after use. See also Notes section.

This medication is for external use on the scalp only (not for pubic lice). Do not use on scalp that is very irritated or injured. Use this medication when your hair is dry. Do not wet your hair before applying. Avoid contact with your eyes. Protect your eyes with a washcloth or towel during application. Close your eyes tightly during application and avoid getting this product in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If the medication accidentally gets into the eye(s), rinse right away with plenty of water. Since you should keep your eyes closed during application, you may need to have another person help you apply this medication. Children will need an adult to apply this medication for them. Apply this medication carefully over all hair on the scalp as directed by the manufacturer. Be sure to completely wet the hair and scalp, behind the ears, and the back of the neck.

After application, leave the medication on the hair for 10 minutes. Do not leave on longer than directed. Do not cover the treated hair (such as with a cap or wrapped foil). After 10 minutes, wash hair thoroughly with regular shampoo. Do not use conditioner. Do not use shampoo that contains conditioner. Towel dry hair.

Use a lice comb to carefully comb hair and remove the dead lice and nits. Follow the manufacturer's directions to divide hair into sections and comb through one section at a time. Clean the comb during use by wiping lice and nits onto a clean tissue or dry paper towel. Place the used tissue or paper towel into a sealable plastic bag to throw away later. After combing, recheck the hair for lice or nits. Soak the lice removal comb in hot water for 10 minutes. Inspect the comb before using it again.

You or anyone who helps you apply this medication should wash hands after application. Check hair after 7 days. If lice or nits are present, repeat treatment with this product. Tell your doctor if head lice remain after the second treatment with this product.
