High-Risk Situations

Some leisure activities might put you at risk for relapse. Team sports might involve making bets. After playing a ball game, the team might go out for a beer. Family gatherings and events such as anniversaries, weddings, or the holiday season might involve alcohol, drugs, or gambling. This may tempt you to celebrate the way you used to.

You can stay away from some of these situations, but not all. Think about and plan how you’ll handle these types of situations ahead of time.

List the activities that might involve other people using alcohol, drugs, or gambling. Make an action plan to help you deal with these activities.

For Example:

Activity:

Ball Tournament

Action plan:

  • Bring my own pop or other drinks.
  • Tell teammates I don't feel like drinking this weekend.
  • Tell teammates I don't drink anymore.
  • Tell teammates I'm driving.
