Stuttering

When you talk, the words usually flow smoothly without interruptions. It’s normal to pause while you’re thinking about what to say or to sometimes repeat 1 or 2 words. But if you find it hard to communicate because you get stuck on sounds or words, you may have a problem with stuttering.

Stuttering may cause you to:

  • repeat sounds, syllables, words or phrases
  • prolong or draw out sounds
  • get stuck or blocked when trying to say a word
  • pause or get stuck in the middle of a word
  • breathe while trying to speak or run out of air while speaking
  • show signs of tension or struggle when trying to speak
