Albertans now have access to a new Government of Alberta immunization appointment booking tool, the Alberta Vaccine Booking System. This new tool gives users one point of access for all vaccination centres and pharmacies in the province. During the transition to the new tool, there will be two options for booking a COVID-19 immunization appointment online. The AHS online booking tool has first and second dose appointments occuring on or before September 6, 2021. If you would like an appointment after September 6, please use the Alberta Vaccine Booking System to book your appointment.
The online booking tool can be used to book first or second dose appointments. Second dose appointments can now be booked for people who received their first dose 28 days ago or more.
Albertans who received AstraZeneca/Covishield for their first dose must call Health Link at 811 to book a second dose appointment. Health Link will ensure the appointment is booked in the correct timeframe at an appropriate clinic.
If a second dose appointment is incorrectly booked, you will receive a cancellation notice from Alberta Health Services. For more information on second doses, please visit ahs.ca/seconddose.
Before you book:
- The COVID-19 vaccine may not be given to those who have had a severe allergic reaction to any of the vaccine ingredients.
- You must wait 14 days after receiving any other vaccine before you can receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
- Please talk to your healthcare professional for advice if you are immunosuppressed or have an autoimmune or bleeding disorder.
At your appointment:
- A nurse will confirm if it is okay for you to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, based on your health history, at the start of the appointment.
- Those who received an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as their first dose will receive an mRNA vaccine as their second dose. While typically people will be booked to receive the same mRNA vaccine for their second dose that they received for their first dose, it is not essential.
If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, have returned from travel outside of Canada in the past 14 days, or have had close contact with someone who is confirmed as having COVID-19, please complete the COVID-19 self-assessment for guidance on testing and isolation. You may still book a COVID-19 immunization appointment but select a date that is after your isolation or quarantine period.
