What is a concussion?

A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury. It’s caused by a bump or blow to the head, or another injury that shakes the brain inside the skull. Most people recover very well after a concussion.

The rate of recovery from a concussion varies but most symptoms will fully resolve within 3-6 months after injury. Proper management of concussions can help speed recovery. It is important to listen to your body’s needs when you are injured. People get better faster when they learn and apply the following self-management strategies during their recovery:

  • Sleep Hygiene
  • Pacing & Energy Conservation
  • Stress Management

These topics will be discussed in detail shortly. First, let’s take a look at some of the common symptoms and problems.
