A colonoscopy test lets the doctor see the inside lining of the colon and rectum. This is done with a colonoscope, which is a long, flexible tube with a light and small video camera on the end.

Learn what you’ll need to do to get ready for your colonoscopy in the 5 days leading up to your test. You may find it helpful to read or print the handout that goes with this video and follow along.
Important:
Don't start your 5-day bowel prep until your doctor or clinic tells you to. Sometimes, the clinic may book a
pre-colonoscopy appointment a few weeks before your actual colonoscopy. This visit is just to check your health and explain what will happen during the test.
Ask if your appointment is for the
colonoscopy itself or just a
pre-colonoscopy visit. If you do the bowel prep for the wrong appointment, you may have to do it again. This can be uncomfortable and unnecessary.
