Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) Pathway

Review your treatment and management options

Everyone needs their own specific treatment and management plan. Your healthcare provider will help you better understand your condition and give you important strategies to guide your recovery.

If you have a moderate to high risk of giant cell arteritis (GCA), your healthcare provider will start you on a steroid medicine called prednisone. This is meant to reduce inflammation. Starting medicine early is very important in treating GCA. Your healthcare provider will talk with you about the possible side effects and risks of prednisone.

Your healthcare provider may also work with you to strengthen your bones, prevent stomach ulcers, and reduce the risk of damage to your heart and blood vessels. These are all possible side effects to using prednisone.

Talk with your healthcare provider about what to expect from your GCA treatment and how the treatment may impact you.
