Yellow fever is a serious infection caused by a virus that spreads through the bite of an infected mosquito. It is found mostly in Africa and South America. There is no specific treatment for yellow fever, but most cases are mild, and people typically recover in a few days.
More severe cases of yellow fever may lead to serious bleeding, heart failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and death.
Currently, you need to get the yellow fever vaccine and show proof of immunization if you are travelling through certain countries in South America or Africa where yellow fever is active.

Yellow fever vaccine is not offered free of charge in Alberta. You can check if your health insurance plan covers the cost.
