Developmental milestones

Learn how to help your child in their development.

Overview

Milestones are steps, or behaviours, that show the progress of expected development during a specific age range. Milestones include physical skills, like sitting, standing, and walking, as well as first words, toilet training, sleeping, and emotional and sensory development.

Sometimes children don’t meet milestones as expected because of a developmental or medical diagnosis. If your child has a new or suspected diagnosis, learn how you can help.

Pediatric rehabilitation can help if your child is having challenges in these areas of development.

Our work takes place on historical and contemporary Indigenous lands, including the territories of Treaty 6, Treaty 7 & Treaty 8 and the homeland of the Métis Nation of Alberta and 8 Métis Settlements. We also acknowledge the many Indigenous communities that have been forged in urban centres across Alberta.
