Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program - Diagnostic Assessment

This test is called a diagnostic ABR assessment and is used to rule out or confirm hearing loss.

Pediatric infectious disease specialists are also a key part of the planning process during the winter months, when typically the Stollery Children's Hospital sees high numbers of young patients admitted with RSV, influenza or a range of respiratory infections. Procedures concerning the management of these highly infectious patients are developed and implemented by pediatric infectious disease specialists.

The goal of MAAST is to better understand the individual's current mental health needs and provide a full assessment of their mental health and any substance use concerns. The team offers short - term support to help stabilize individuals and families, which may include safety planning, education, brief interventions, and connecting them to other supports and services.

The Stollery David Schiff NICU, at the Walter C. Mackenzie Health Sciences Centre campus, provides surgical care to newborn babies.

The Stollery Philip C. Etches NICU, located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) level 2/3 unit that specializes in the care of very premature infants.

The Stollery NICU at the Sturgeon is a level 2 unit.

Newborns in need of stabilization or urgent diagnosis and care within the Edmonton zone and Northern Alberta may be transferred to NICU via the NICU Transport Team (ground or air transport).

The consultation service begins with an assessment of a patient's personal and family history for features of a suspected condition.

Genetic counselling is provided to patients to explore applicable inheritance patterns and the benefits, risks, and limitations of genetic testing (if indicated) for both the patient and any at risk relatives.

Examples of neurogenetic conditions include Huntington's disease, myotonic dystrophy, hereditary spastic paraparesis, and ataxia among others.
