Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) medications (ie. methadone, Suboxone®) are available in all locations. Most OAT medications allows a person to function normally without drowsiness or withdrawal symptioms. In cases where OAT medications are not effective hydromorphone can be accessed in Narcotic Transition Services (NTS) locations (Grande Prairie, Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge). In all locations, individuals have access to medical support, medication and psychosocial support (housing, financial, mental health, legal, relationships).

Services are available at hospital-based outpatient physiotherapy departments, community health centres, patient's homes, long term care centres and Supported Living facilities.

Outpatient services provided to adults without third party payer coverage and children with orthopedic conditions. Patients seeking physiotherapy services due to work-related injuries (WCB) and motor vehicle accidents (MVA) are not eligible for AHS publicly-funded outpatient services and will be redirected to private physiotherapy provider.
Inpatient services provided to patients with functional limitations resulting from cardio-respiratory, orthopedic and/or neurological conditions.
Community services provided to patients who require home assessment or unable to come to the clinic due to limitations with respect to transportation and/or physical condition.
Wait-time for outpatient and community physiotherapy services is less than 1 month.
There is no fee for assessment and treatment, but the client may be billed for therapeutic supplies.
Cafeteria services offer food and beverages at Alberta Health Services facilities. Catering services and vending machines are available at some sites. Each cafeteria services site team is dedicated to creating great food, inspiring healthy eating, and providing outstanding customer service to support the health of Albertans.

We can’t predict how long you will need to wait in the emergency department. Patients are assessed (triaged) using a standard scoring system called the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) to see how urgent their health needs are.

General Radiography uses x-rays to produce images of the structures inside the body, particularly bones. X-ray beams can pass through the body, but they are absorbed in different amounts depending on the density of the material they pass through.

Occupational Therapists enable people of all ages to engage more fully in the activities of everyday living. They work together with clients, their families and caregivers to develop ways to help clients reach their potential in caring for themselves, working, and enjoying life.
Pediatric OT services are accessed through the Children’s Allied Health Department in Medicine Hat and Lethbridge.

Speech-Language Pathologists evaluate, diagnose, treat and enhance function in both communication (speech production, receptive and expressive language, cognition, voice, resonance, fluency, and hearing) and swallowing, including related feeding behaviors. Taking a lead role in advocating for and implementing Communication Access (i.e., low tech solutions to high technology solutions for individuals who are not able to use their voice for short term or long term reasons).Intervention includes:

The Operating Room is closed Saturday, Sunday, Monday and statutory holidays.
Offers a wide range of surgical procedures. Dental surgery is limited to patients with special needs.
Surgeon referral: Sends a completed booking form to the Operating Room.
Visiting surgeons: the surgical clinic clerk books surgery at the time of the consultation with the surgeon.
