Care is provided by a multidisciplinary team which may include: Neurology, Respirology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Dietetics, Speech-Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Social Work.

Offers anesthesia to people having surgery. People are assessed before their surgery in the Pre-Admission Clinic. People with health problems may require an anesthetic consult and a consult with an internal medicine specialist.

The program supports the rights of children to know their parental history, and this program is a preventative measure that gives the child a chance to know its history and be reunited if the parent(s) comes forward later. Computed tomography, also known as "CT Scan" or "CAT Scan", is when pictures of the body are taken using radiation and computer-enhanced imaging.

A major focus of the service is the use of bone anchored implant technology (osseointegration) to reconstruct defects of head and neck to attach custom design and manufactured prosthetics, per patient needs.

Offers close monitoring, assessment, and care for inpatients who are very sick. May provide intubation and ventilation (treatments to help people breathe) and give life-supporting medicine.
Chronic Ventilation Program aims to promote quality of life and best practice for patients requiring invasive and non-invasive ventilation through direct and indirect patient care, program development, research and quality improvement initiatives. Individuals are supported within their “medical home”, which may include hospital, long term care or community facilities. Virtual support is also available for those in rural or remote locations. Weaning Outreach Team assists in safely transitioning patients from mechanical ventilation in acute care setting and assisting with disposition and initiation of home mechanical ventilation when indicated. Patients are transferred to the Misericordia ICU if deemed appropriate and bed capacity permits.
ICU Recovery Clinic focuses on assessing the primary needs of ICU survivors, including evaluating the severity of Post-Intensive Care Syndrome. The clinic helps identifiy healthcare needs and coordinate referrals and follow ups with appropriate community and outpatient resources. The clinic serves a clinical and research role within the critical care community, addressing complications and long-term outcomes of ICU survivors.
Complex Medical and Symptom Management provides palliative care and symptom management, along with support for patients with complex chronic conditions and advance care planning in outpatient or home settings. It is designed for patients at high risk of clinical deterioration and potential acute care needs within the next 6 to 12 months. The focus is on stabilizing symptoms and offering proactive, anticipatory guidance to patients, families, and care partners, as well as supporting family physicians and primary care providers in ongoing management.

All babies born or registered in Alberta are offered screening for permanent congenital hearing loss. It's best to have your baby's hearing screened before they are 1 month old. Newborn hearing screening service is offered at most hospital or birth centre postpartum units before discharge and by appointment at many community-based hearing screening sites. Newborn hearing screening and audiological diagnostic results dating from October 1, 2025, are now available on Netcare in the Operative / Procedure / Investigation section.
After the birth of your baby, a health care provider will offer to have your baby's hearing screened.
With your consent, your baby's hearing screening will happen before your baby leaves the hospital. The results of your baby's hearing screening and any follow up needed will be shared with you.

Offers ECG (electrocardiogram) tests to assess heart rhythms and electrical activity in the heart. Provides holter monitoring for continuous ECG recording.
Physician referral is required and must include client medical history with information about the suspected heart problem.
Echocardiography uses ultrasound to study the structure and function of the heart, including blood flow through the heart and its valves.
Provides electroencephalographs (EEGs) that record the electrical activity of the brain in adults, children, and infants. EEGs help diagnose diseases, injuries, and other issues that can affect the brain.

Fluoroscopy is a real time x-ray like a video, which is used by physicians and staff to assist imaging throughout the body during exams.

General Radiography uses x-rays to produce images of the structures inside the body, particularly bones. X-ray beams can pass through the body, but they are absorbed in different amounts depending on the density of the material they pass through.

Healing Connections Breast Cancer Support | Misericordia Community Hospital
Open to Alberta residents having breast cancer surgery within the Edmonton Zone. You must physically be in the province when attending the Virtual Healing Connections Program.

Completes patient charts, collects data, data entry and coding, collects patient information, dictates notes, and transcribes inpatient and outpatient charts.

Offers portable heart rhythm monitors to help assess heart rhythms. Clients wear a portable monitor for about 24 hours while doing everyday activities. The monitor is then returned to the clinic and the heart rhythm is assessed.
Helps people of all ages who live at home and need medical support, which may include:
An AHS case manager and registered nurse meet with clients and help decide which services they need. This service also assesses applications for long-term care, supportive living, and facility respite care. The Continuing Care Access Line is available for new patients and their family to call if they have questions or inquiries about accessing Home Care services in their community (during and after regular business hours).
Most services are covered for people with Alberta Health Care Insurance coverage, but there may be charges for services not covered by Alberta Health Care Insurance. Out of province clients looking for home care services in Alberta should inquire on any potential charges prior to obtaining services.

Patients scheduled for hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty surgery will be seen at the Edmonton Bone and Joint Centre for their pre-op assessment, preparation and teaching. Wait times for surgery after this varies.

Mothers are supported by a multidisciplinary team to prepare them for delivery and the baby's potential for withdrawal after birth.
We support with addiction medicine through pregnancy and postpartum to assist with the moms' treatment needs. Our goal is to support moms and babies as they transition into postpartum and provide connections to wrap around community supports.
We employ non-pharmacological interventions with the goal of keeping mom and baby together — and avoiding admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
On-call service is available after-hours.
Clients swallow, inhale, or are given a needle with a radiotracer before their exam. Radiotracers go to a specific body part so the camera can take pictures. (tests may take a number of hours to complete; patients may be required to return later that day or the next day to complete exam).
Radiotracers are also given to treat diseases like thyroid disease.

The program includes 90-minute classes for five to seven weeks depending on scheduling. Classes consist of educational lectures and practical exercise demonstrations by a Physical Therapist, allowing time for observation of participants performing the exercises. Sessions may include a Registered Dietician and Pharmacist. The virtual format allows for eight participants each session. As part of our support for patient care and comfort, friends and family of inpatients at hospital and health care facilities can send well wishes via email. Sites participating in the program will receive the message, will ensure that the message is only "well-wish" (any other type of communication will be deleted) and will arrange for delivery within 3 business days. A couple of important reminders - the electronic delivery system is not a secure connection, so please don't add any confidential information to your message. Plus the "well-wish" system does not allow for replies or confirm receipt / delivery confirmation.

PCWH is a family-based, intensive intervention lasting up to two years. This multidisciplinary approach to care may include support by various healthcare providers including pediatric specialists, a registered nurse, dietitian, exercise specialist and a social worker, who collaborate with the family to create a coordinated and individualized, family-centered plan of care.
A variety of languages are available with the support of interpreter and language services.
Available to children 2 - 17 years of age with a BMI greater than 99th percentile or a BMI of 97th percentile with co-morbidities.

The Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) is available in all 11 Edmonton-area emergency departments.
Outside of emergency departments, the SART Clinic is available for people who do not require additional medical, mental health, or social support. The clinic is by appointment only, and provides the same specialized sexual assault care in a non-hospital setting. The team provides compassionate, confidential, culturally sensitive, and nonjudgmental care to individuals who have been sexually assaulted in the last 7 days with or without police involvement.

Children 13 years and younger who have been sexually assaulted should go to the Stollery within the first 3 days.
Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT / CT) technology combines the functional imaging capabilities of SPECT with the high-resolution anatomic imaging of CT. With a combined SPECT / CT, the gamma camera picks up the metabolic signal and the CT provides a detailed picture of the internal anatomy that shows the size, shape and location of the abnormal tissues.

Clients are attached to a heart monitor while they walk on a treadmill. This test can help detect early symptoms of some forms of heart disease such as angina.
If clients are unable to walk because of leg problems, they are given a drug to stress their heart. A different drug, and a scan taken after the exercise, can be used to see if all parts of the heart get equal amounts of blood when it's stressed.

The Day Surgery & Pre Operative Care Unit provides comprehensive, patient centered care for individuals aged 16 and older who are preparing for or recovering from surgical procedures. Our team supports two primary patient groups:

Ultrasound is an imaging test that captures images of soft tissue organs, blood vessels and tissues using high-frequency sound waves (no radiation). Ultrasound is also known as sonography.

Complex open wounds include diabetic wounds, lower leg wounds and pressure injuries.
There are no fees for professional services. Patients will be billed if they require temporary footwear or off-loading devices.
