Your doctor removed dead tissue from your wound (debridement). How it was done depends on how severe the wound was.
You may have some pain and swelling around your wound. This should get better within a few days after the procedure. You may have a bandage or a moist dressing over your wound. Your doctor will let you know how long to keep it on and how often to change it.
How long it will take for your wound to heal depends on how serious your wound is and whether you have any other health problems that may slow healing. You may need to have the wound debrided again.
How soon you can return to work and your normal routine depends on the type of work you do and how you feel. For example, if your wound is on your arm and your job requires you to do heavy lifting, you may need to wait until your wound has healed before you go back to work.
This care sheet gives you a general idea about how long it will take for you to recover. But each person recovers at a different pace. Follow the steps below to feel better as quickly as possible.
Follow-up care is a key part of your treatment and safety.
