Environmental Public Health Program

Services we offer:

  • regulating public places like restaurants, daycares, swimming pools, work camps, long-term care facilities and nursing homes, playgrounds, special events, and esthetic services (e.g., tattoo studios, manicures, pedicures, facials, hair styling)
  • inspecting rental housing and accommodations to ensure they meet minimum health standards
  • inspecting tobacco and vaping retailers
  • investigating illnesses and disease outbreaks
  • education on topics including food safety, pool operation and child care health and safety
  • public health information and consultation to businesses and the public
  • providing water quality sampling supplies and consultation for public and private drinking water systems, public swimming pools, and beaches
  • plan reviews, grant approvals, and issues permits and licenses for new businesses and special events that fall under Alberta's Public Health Act
  • reviews and makes recommendations to approving authorities regarding proposed land use developments (e.g., intensive livestock operations, industrial plants, or developments on contaminated sites)
