This medication is used to treat skin infections. It is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria.
If you are using this medication on the skin, clean and dry the affected area as directed. Then apply a small amount of the medication on the affected area, usually 3 to 4 times a day or as directed by your doctor. A thin layer is all that is needed. Cover with a bandage if your doctor directs you to do so.
Do not use large amounts of this medication, apply it more often, or use it for longer than directed. Your condition will not clear faster, but the chance for side effects may be increased.
Avoid using this medication in or around your eyes, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Continue to use it for the full time prescribed. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a return of the infection.
Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
Mild irritation, burning, redness, or pain may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a new infection (such as a fungal infection). Contact your doctor if you notice signs of a new infection.

Before using fusidic acid or fusidate sodium, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as lanolin in the ointment), which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

This medication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another infection unless your doctor tells you to.
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Use your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
If you have questions about missing a dose or you don't have more medication, contact your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Different manufacturers have different storage temperature directions, so consult the product package or your pharmacist for more information. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company for more details about how to safely discard your product.
