Needle Safety

Cities across the world are tackling the issue of needle debris and here in Alberta, we continue to search for strategies to ensure individuals and communities are as safe and healthy as possible.

Safe disposal of needles reduces the chance of injury. The majority of needles in communities are disposed of safely by the people who have used them, however, there is still more work to be done to respond to needle debris.

Getting Rid of Needles Safely

We all need to do our part to keep our communities clean and safe. This means getting rid of needles and needle waste properly. There are ways to safely pick up and dispose of discarded needles.


Accidental Needle Sticks

Many people worry about getting a disease like hepatitis or HIV from an accidental needle poke. But it doesn't happen often. If you do accidentally poke yourself, there are steps you should follow.
