A soft-textured, bland diet is used when you need food that is easy to chew, swallow, and digest. You will need to choose soft foods that are low in spices and seasonings. You will need to avoid high-fat foods, as well as caffeine and alcohol.
Your doctor or dietitian can help you plan a soft-textured, bland diet based on your health and what you prefer to eat. Ask your doctor how long you should stay on this diet. As you get better, you will probably be able to go back to a regular diet. Talk with your doctor or dietitian before you make changes in your diet.
Follow-up care is a key part of your treatment and safety. Be sure to make and go to all appointments, and call your doctor or nurse call line if you are having problems. It's also a good idea to know your test results and keep a list of the medicines you take.
