If your healthcare provider thinks you may have giant cell arteritis (GCA), they will refer you to a specialist called a rheumatologist.
A rheumatologist can help you manage your GCA by choosing the most appropriate tests and medicines with you. You should hear from a rheumatologist within a few days of being referred, and they will manage your condition from that point on.
Ask your healthcare provider if you have questions about the referral criteria for a specialist.
