A primary malignant brain tumour is cancer that begins in the brain. Cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow out of control. These tumours usually grow quickly. They can spread throughout the brain and sometimes to the spinal cord. As the tumours grow, they can affect important brain functions. Brain cancer can be deadly.
There are many types of malignant brain tumours. Treatment depends on tumour type and location in the brain. Treatment includes radiation, surgery, medicines (chemotherapy), or a combination of these.
When you find out that you have cancer, you may feel many emotions and may need some help coping. Seek out family, friends, and counsellors for support. You also can do things at home to make yourself feel better while you go through treatment.
