An indwelling urinary catheter is a small, flexible tube that can be inserted through the urethra and into the bladder. The catheter allows urine to drain into a collection bag.
An indwelling catheter is one that stays in place for a longer period of time. When the catheter is inserted into the bladder, a small balloon is inflated to keep it in place. The balloon is deflated before the catheter is removed.
