Injury Prevention and Safety

Everyday safety

You and your family want to live, explore, be active, and go places safely. But injuries can and do happen, sometimes more often than we’d like. They can happen in your home or out in your community. In Alberta, injuries are the leading cause of emergency department visits.

But injuries are preventable, and everyone has a role to play. You can do many things to reduce hazards for yourself, your family, and others. By slowing down when driving through a neighbourhood, wearing a helmet when biking, or storing medicines away from children, you are taking action to help keep people safe.

MyHealth.Alberta.ca has lots of safety information you can use to help prevent injuries in daily life. Some safety information is for specific groups—such as car seat safety for children and preventing falls for older adults—and other information is more general and is important for everyone.
