Home safety
Your home should be a safe place for you, your family, and friends. But many injuries can happen at home. Fires, poisonous substances, and other household hazards can harm people of all ages. Babies and children may be especially at risk.
Taking steps to make your home safer—whether in a house, apartment, or on a farm—can help prevent serious injuries. Learning what risks to look for and how to reduce them can protect you and the people you care for.

Poison can be found in things like household cleaners, cosmetics, and houseplants. Even medicines can be poisonous if taken at the wrong dose or by someone they aren’t meant for.
If you think you or someone else has been exposed to a substance that could be poisonous, call the Poison and Drug Information Service (Alberta) at 1-800-332-1414 anytime day or night.
If the person is unconscious, not breathing, or having a seizure, call 911 right away.
