Everyone will need different tests, assessments, and screening depending on their individual health needs and gender affirmation goals. In most cases, you will not need a physical exam except in cases where it is necessary for either a particular treatment or referral.
Non-medical options for gender-affirming care usually do not need medical tests or assessments.
If you choose medical options for gender-affirming care, you may need bloodwork before starting medicines and once treatment has started to guide decisions about medicine dose. Blood tests help your healthcare provider manage and monitor hormone levels in your body.
Depending on your individual health, there may be other screening or assessments to help set you up for success with your gender-affirming care journey. This might include your healthcare team asking you questions about your mental health and well-being.
