Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Pathway

Talk with your healthcare provider about a referral

Not everyone with PCOS needs a referral. Depending on your symptoms and your test results, your primary care provider (like your family doctor or nurse practitioner) may refer you to another healthcare provider. But in most cases, your primary care provider can support you in managing your PCOS.

Other healthcare providers who might be involved in your care include:

  • registered dietitian to help you with nutrition and healthy eating patterns
  • endocrinologist (a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating health conditions related to hormones and hormonal glands)
  • gynecologist (a doctor who specializes in helping with issues related to your reproductive organs, menstruation, and fertility)
  • dermatologist (a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases and concerns with skin, hair, and nails)
  • psychologist or psychiatrist to help with the emotional challenges, support behaviour changes, and improve overall health and well-being
  • pharmacist to monitor how your medicines interact and help you use medicines properly
