What is a left atrial appendage occlusion

​​If you have atrial fibrillation, your doctor may have spoken to you about the left atrial appendage occlusion procedure (LAAO). This procedure means that a cardiologist (heart doctor) will insert a device into your heart to prevent a stroke when in atrial fibrillation. The following will give you an overview of atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention, and how a LAAO may work for you. If you have more questions, talk to a member of your healthcare team.
