Addiction: Leisure and Recovery

What is Leisure?

Leisure means different things to different people. Some people like to do sports or hobbies. Other people think of leisure as free time spent away from chores, work, school, or other things they need to do.

Leisure includes:

  • sports, running, working in the garden and other physical types of activities
  • reading a book, and other relaxing activities that are good for your health

Leisure can be something you do with other people or on your own. If it's something healthy you like to do and it makes you feel good, it's leisure.

Making changes can be hard. You might need time to figure out what you like to do best once you're in recovery. It might also take a while before you feel like you fit into a clean and sober world. However, finding healthy ways to spend free time will get easier with time.
