Plan for high-risk situations

Some leisure activities may make it harder to stay on track with your recovery. For example:

  • team sports might include betting or gambling
  • after a game or activity, teammates or participants might go out for drinks
  • family events like weddings, birthdays, or holidays might include alcohol, drugs, or gambling

You can avoid some of these situations, but not all. That’s why it’s important to think ahead and make a plan.

    For example:

    Activity:

    Ball tournament

    My action plan:

    • Bring my own pop or other drinks.
    • Tell teammates I don't feel like drinking this weekend.
    • Tell teammates I don't drink anymore.
    • Tell teammates I'm driving.
    • Bring a supportive friend
    • Leave early
