Staying with your leisure plan

How to stay motivated

Doing things you enjoy is good for your mind and body. A leisure plan can help with recovery, reduce stress, and make life more fun. But sometimes it’s hard to stick with it. Here are some easy tips to help you stay on track.

  • Pick activities you like. Choose things that make you feel good or relaxed. Start small. When it’s fun, you’re more likely to keep doing it.
  • Make it part of your day. Plan your leisure time like you would plan an appointment. Set a time and stick to it. It helps to write it down or put it in your phone.
  • Change things up. Doing the same thing every day can get boring. Try new hobbies or switch up how you do your favourite ones. Being flexible keeps it interesting.
  • Do it with others. Join a group, invite a friend, or talk to someone while you do your activity. Spending time with others makes things more fun and helps you stay on track.
  • Celebrate your wins. Give yourself credit for what you do, even the small things. Finished a walk? Made art? Took time to relax? Great job! Every step counts.
  • Be patient with yourself. Some days will be harder than others. That’s OK. If you miss a day, try again tomorrow. You don’t have to be perfect — just keep going.
  • Remember why it matters. Leisure is not a waste of time – it’s part of your healing. It helps you feel better, build confidence, and enjoy life more. When it gets hard, remind yourself how it helps your recovery and health. The challenges you face today can help you handle the ones that come tomorrow. Change takes time.
