As with any delivery, our body is going through some big changes and needs time to heal. Be sure to allow yourself time to rest and recover. It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks for your body to recover after delivery and you may continue to have vaginal bleeding during this time.
Your body needs time for the hormones to clear from your system so a pregnancy test may still show as positive for several weeks after your baby’s delivery. Talk to your doctor or healthcare provider before you start using tampons or having sex again because there is a higher risk of infection for at least 2 weeks.
You can go back to normal activities such as work, school, and driving when you feel ready. Women in Alberta who give birth to a baby who is born still, are eligible for the maternity benefits.
