Types of procedures

Imaging procedures guide a healthcare provider to see inside the body.

Ablation and embolization – procedures to shrink tumours and growths
Angiogram, angioplasty – procedure for veins and arteries
Biopsy – procedures to take a tissue or bone sample
Catheters and ports – procedures using small tubes that allow fluid to pass through
Echocardiogram – procedure that looks at your heart
Electrocardiogram (EKG, ECG) - test to see the electrical activity of your heart
Electroencephalogram – test to see the electrical activity of your brain
Filters – procedures that place a filter in a vein
Fluid-draining procedures
Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty – procedure to relieve spinal pain from fractures
Lumbar puncture (spinal tap) – procedure to check fluid around the brain and spinal cord
Myelogram – procedure to get images of bones and spinal canal
Sclerotherapy – procedure for vascular (blood vessels)
Stents – procedures where at tube is inserted to keep a passage open
