If you broke your hip after a fall, it’s important to look at ways to prevent another fall.

Tips to prevent slips, trips and falls at home

  1. Add a firm pillow to a low chair.
  2. Install a rail along one side of the staircase.
  3. Wear rubber-soled shoes to prevent slipping.
  4. Watch for small pets or objects on the floor.
  5. Remove throw rugs.
  6. Move electrical cords out of the way.
  7. Use a cart to move items.
  8. Keep items you use often within easy reach.

  1. Install grab bars in your shower or tub for support as you get in and out.
  2. Sit on a bath bench or shower chair while you bathe.
  3. Use a commode chair or raised toilet seat.
  4. Use a rubber-backed bathroom mat to help keep the floor dry.
  5. Use a long-handled sponge to wash hard-to-reach areas.
  6. Install a hand-held shower head for easier bathing.
