Strategy #2: Relax

You can lower your stress by taking time for yourself, having fun, and relaxing.

Try these healthy ways to relax and recharge:

Stay Healthy
  • Go for a walk
  • Spend time in nature
  • Call a friend
  • Write in your journal
  • Take a long bath
  • Savour a cup of tea
  • Play with a pet
  • Work in your garden
  • Get a massage
  • Read a good book
  • Listen to music

Life can get busy, but don’t forget to take care of your own needs. Taking care of yourself is a necessity, not a luxury.

  • Set aside time to relax. Put rest time into your daily schedule, and don’t put it off. This is your time to take a break and recharge.
  • Connect with others. Spend time with positive people who make your life better. A strong support system works against the negative effects of stress.
  • Do something you enjoy every day. Make time to do whatever brings you joy, like looking at the stars, playing an instrument, or working on a hobby.
  • Keep your sense of humour. Learn to laugh at yourself. Laughing helps your body fight stress.
  • Learn relaxation techniques. Relaxation and mindfulness, like gentle yoga or breathing meditation, can help improve coping skills. Regularly practicing these techniques is good for your body, mind, and wellbeing.
