Strategy #2: Relax

You can lower your stress by taking time for yourself, having fun, and relaxing.

Try these healthy ways to relax and recharge:

Stay Healthy
  • Go for a walk.
  • Spend time in nature.
  • Call a friend.
  • Sweat out tension with a good workout.
  • Write in your journal.
  • Take a long bath.
  • Savour a cup of tea.
  • Play with a pet.
  • Work in your garden.
  • Get a massage.
  • Read a good book.
  • Listen to music.
  • Watch a comedy.

Life can get busy, but don’t forget to take care of your own needs. Taking care of yourself is a necessity, not a luxury.

  • Set aside time to relax. Put rest time into your daily schedule, and don’t put it off. This is your time to take a break and recharge.
  • Connect with others. Spend time with positive people who make your life better. A strong support system works against the negative effects of stress.
  • Do something you enjoy every day. Make time to do whatever brings you joy—looking at the stars, playing the piano, working on your bike.
  • Keep your sense of humour. Learn to laugh at yourself. Laughing helps your body fight stress.
  • Learn relaxation techniques. Relaxation and mindfulness (e.g., gentle yoga or breathing mediation) can help improve coping skills. Regularly practising these techniques is good for your body, mind, and well-being.
