There are many services and supports that can help you get to your best health and manage your weight.

MyHealth.Alberta.ca is a trusted source for non-emergency health information. Search for terms such as weight management, wellness, and lifestyle to find related content, programs, and services. You can also call Health Link at 811 to find weight management programs and services near you.​

Talk to your healthcare providers

If you don’t have a healthcare provider use the link to help you find one. Many different healthcare providers can help you. Each can help in different ways and will often work together to help you get to your w​​​​​​eight and health goals. Healthcare providers you might talk to include:

  • family doctor or primary care practitioner
  • primary care network health team and services
  • registered nurse
  • registered dietitian
  • pharmacist
  • physiotherapist
  • occupational therapist
  • exercise physiologist
  • psychologist
  • mental health worker
  • social worker
  • bariatric specialist

Join a Better Choices, Better Health workshop

Obesity Canada​ ​

Visit Obesity Canada for information on obesity, managing obesity and weight bias, and for obesity specific resources (webinars, videos).

Weight management group education workshops

Attend on-line or in-person. Healthcare providers will teach the workshops at different centres, Primary Care Networks (PCN), and other Alberta Health Services (AHS) programs. Check with your healthcare provider or PCN to see if they offer group education workshops on adult weight management. The workshops focus on topics such as:

  • nutrition (see Nutrition Resources)
  • physical activity
  • stress
  • emotional eating
  • setting goals

Go to Healthy Eating Starts Here to help you understand what it means to eat healthy and how to make personal changes in your eating habits where you live, work, learn, or play.

  • Nutrition education materials – see sections Bariatric Surgery and Weight and health (weight management).
  • Nutrition workshops and classes – information on classes on weight and health offered in different zones in Alberta. A registered dietitian leads these workshops. Call Health Link at 811 or go to Nutrition Services workshops and classes to find out about what workshops are available near you.​
